I can't understand! :(

Bits are gathered vertically, 1 byte contains the bits of 8 rows.

I changed the "8 rows" into 1 column", it may be a bit clearer. The format is a little bit tricky:

Column 0  Column 1
Byte 0    Byte 1
| bit 7   | bit 7
|         |
|         |
| bit 4   | bit 4
|         |
|         |
|         |
| bit 0   | bit 0

Each | = 1 bit = 1 pixel.
